Status and milestones

Timeline

This page is updated when the Town posts new schedule information.
  1. Engineering and design

    Complete

    Completed (2024-2025)

Tighe & Bond prepared plans and specifications. Design was coordinated with MassDEP for environmental Time of Year restrictions, regulatory permitting, and utility contacts. Grant applications submitted and awards received.

  2. Permitting and procurement

    Now

    Winter 2026 through summer 2026

Required environmental and construction permits obtained. Project went to bid and a contractor was selected. Town Meeting appropriation and capital funding finalized (ATM Articles 14 and 15). Select Board votes on the bid award are posted to the Agenda Center. Tighe & Bond has advised that **greater procurement time** for the contractor is recommended to ensure all components are in hand before construction begins — supporting an efficient process and avoiding cost escalation.

  3. 3

    Construction and full road closure

    Upcoming

Late summer 2026 or later (estimated)

Full closure of Providence Street beginning when the contractor mobilizes. Culvert excavation, pre-cast box culvert bridge installation, stream restoration, and roadway reconstruction. This phase has the greatest community impact. Environmental Time of Year restrictions govern the in-stream work window. Duration depends on contractor schedule, weather, and permit conditions — often on the order of several months of active closure. The start date is subject to procurement and material lead times; if those extend, mobilization may shift to align with the most efficient construction window.

  4. 4

    Restoration and reopening

    Upcoming

Estimated several months after construction start

Final paving, road striping, Cape Cod berm and catch-basin completion, seeding and erosion controls, punch list, and engineer's inspection before the road reopens.

The windows above are estimates. The construction start date depends on contractor procurement, material lead times, and permit conditions. Tighe & Bond has recommended that the contractor have all components in hand before mobilizing, which supports an efficient construction timeline but may affect the start date. When the Town confirms a contractor schedule or the Select Board issues an update, check the Agenda Center for authoritative dates.

Acceleration measures (extended work hours, incentive/disincentive provisions) can be explored, but schedule reduction is limited by critical-path activities including product fabrication, delivery, excavation, dewatering, structural installation, and environmental Time of Year restrictions.
